A True Friend

At an elementary school, there was a boy named Ken. Not long ago, Ken had an unfortunate traffic accident, injuring his left eye. Now, his eye was covered with thick bandages.

Whenever Ken walked into the classroom, his classmates would stare at him with curiosity.

In the class, there was a mischievous boy named Liam. He loved teasing others. When Liam saw Ken, he couldn’t help but shout loudly, “Hey, look! One-Eyed Ken is here!” He even covered one of his own eyes with his hand, mocking Ken’s appearance, causing the other kids to burst into laughter. To make matters worse, Liam told the others not to play with Ken.

Ken felt deeply hurt, but he chose to stay silent and endure it quietly.

A few days later, Liam was playing soccer on the playground when he tripped over a rock and fell hard. His classmates rushed to help him, and he was taken to the hospital. Liam had badly sprained his ankle and had to wear a thick bandage. He could only walk with crutches.

When Liam returned to school, he hobbled into the classroom on one foot. This time, the tables turned. His classmates started teasing him. They imitated his awkward walk and shouted, “Look! Limping Liam is here!” Hearing their laughter, Liam felt humiliated.

During recess, everyone played on the playground as usual, but no one invited Liam to join them.

Liam sat alone in a corner, leaning on his crutches, watching the other kids running and laughing. Tears welled up in his eyes.

Suddenly, Liam heard familiar footsteps. When he looked up, it was Ken. Ken smiled and walked over to him, speaking softly, “I can play with you.”

Liam stared at Ken, surprised and touched. He had never imagined that Ken, the boy he had once teased, would come over to keep him company. Liam lowered his head and said, “I’m sorry, Ken. I shouldn’t have teased you before.”

Ken gently patted Liam’s shoulder and smiled. “It’s okay. From now on, we can be friends and help each other.”

From that day on, Liam never tease anyone again. He had learned that everyone has moments of vulnerability and hardship. Ken and Liam became the best of friends, always supporting one another
